Clean water and basic sanitation for everyone!
A third of the people on the planet still do not have toilet facilities. And this has been causing a series of unnecessary illnesses that lead to the population’s death.
The sixth global goal is about tackling this problem by planning to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for everyone on the planet.
Some targets were developed to aid in the achievement of the goals. They are as follows:
Achieve equitable access for all worldwide to safe drinking water.
Ensure proper sanitation and hygiene, thus ending open defecation.
Improve water quality and reduce pollution by eliminating waste and minimizing the release of hazardous chemicals and materials.
Increase water use efficiency and guarantee the supply of quality fresh water.
Implement integrated water resources management.
Protect and restore water-related ecosystems, including mountains, forests, wetlands, rivers, aquifers, and lakes.
Expand international cooperation and capacity-building support for developing countries in activities and programs related to water and sanitation, including water collection, desalination, water efficiency, wastewater treatment, recycling, and reuse technologies.
Support and strengthen the participation of local communities in improving water and sanitation management.
