2030 Agenda: The eradication of poverty

In addition to Light DeFi (LIGHT), the whole world is concerned about adopting sustainable initiatives. Almost 200 countries are part of an agreement, which became known as the 2030 Agenda. Have you ever heard of this?

One hundred ninety-three countries proposed the 2030 Agenda in 2015 during the UN Summit on Sustainable Development opening. Since then, these countries have pledged to adopt more sustainable and environment-preserving measures and ensure citizens’ better quality of life.

In total, the 2030 Agenda presented 17 terms that were classified as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Divided into categories such as people, planet, prosperity, peace, and partnership, these goals must be achieved by the countries that signed the agreement. The 17 goals are:

Poverty Eradication

Zero Hunger

Health and wellness

Quality education

Gender equality

Clean water and sanitation

Clean and Affordable Energy

Decent Work and Economic Growth

Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure

Reduction of Inequalities

Sustainable Cities and Communities

Responsible Consumption and Production

Action Against Global Climate Change

Life in water

Earth life

Peace, Justice, and Effective Institutions

Partnerships and Means of Implementation

The first objective presented by the UN is the “Eradication of Poverty,” as there will not be a sustainable world with high social inequality. According to the booklet, by 2030, extreme poverty must be eradicated from the planet.

More than 800 million people live in extreme poverty, and this index is expected to be reversed in less than ten years. Without access to food and even clean water, these people live on less than $1.25 a day.

According to the United Nations Development Program, there are more women than men living in extreme poverty. Furthermore, South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa are the two regions with the highest concentration of people living in this situation, around 80%.

In addition to these goals, the 2030 Agenda intends to meet 169 targets over the next nine years. With the preservation of the environment in mind, the 2030 Agenda calls for sustainable initiatives to be implemented in all sectors, especially in  energy generation.
